Gluten-free in Santiago de Compostela
GLUTEN-FREE OPTIONS ACROSS THE WHOLE MENU · OPEN EVERY DAY FROM 08:00 · RÚA DE SAN CLEMENTE, 6
We do not run a separate coeliac menu. Instead there are gluten-free options spread across the whole menu, from breakfast at eight in the morning through to dinner. We are in the old town, a three-minute walk from the Cathedral.
Tell us when you book or when you order and we will tell you exactly which dishes we can serve you and which we can adapt. We would rather talk it through with you than hand you a fixed list.
What you can eat gluten-free
These are the swaps we make every day:
- Any of our eleven toasts, with the bread swapped for a crisp arepa. It works with all of them: smoked salmon with poached egg, the Galician one with Arzúa-Ulloa and Cebreiro cheese, vegan, vegetarian…
- The gluten-free toast that comes that way by default: crisp arepa base, guacamole, galmesano cheese, tender shoots and confit cherry tomatoes.
- Gluten-free churros, four pieces.
- The full cLM brunch, adapted. Let us know when you book.
- At lunch and dinner: octopus á feira with cachelos, cheese and cecina boards, salads, Herbón peppers in season and free-range Serantes eggs.
Every dish on the menu lists its allergens, so you can check before you come.
How we handle allergies and intolerances
We want to be straight with you: this is a kitchen that works with gluten. We bake our own empanada and pastries in house, so we are not a one hundred per cent gluten-free venue and we cannot guarantee the complete absence of traces.
What we do is flag it in the kitchen, prepare your dish separately and use gluten-free product. If your coeliac disease is severe, tell the person serving you and they will explain exactly how we prepare it, so you can decide.
The same goes for the other allergens: lactose, egg, nuts, fish, molluscs and crustaceans are marked dish by dish.
Vegetarian, vegan and other options
Beyond gluten-free there is a vegan toast with hummus, sautéed mushrooms and caramelised onion, a vegetarian toast with beetroot hummus and poached egg, a veggie burrito with guacamole and vegetables, salads, and full vegan set menus for groups.
Plus the vegan breakfast: muesli bread, hummus, sautéed mushrooms, caramelised onion, truffle oil and a bowl of fresh fruit.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have a gluten-free menu?
Not a separate one: there are gluten-free options within the normal menu, and we adapt dishes. Allergens are marked on every dish.
Can I have a gluten-free breakfast?
Yes. We swap the bread on the toasts for a crisp arepa, and we have gluten-free churros.
And the brunch?
Yes, if you tell us when you book.
Are you a gluten-free venue?
No. We work with gluten and we have our own bakery. We prepare your dish separately, but we cannot guarantee the absence of traces.
Should I tell you in advance?
Better if you do, especially at weekends. Call +34 981 024 634 or mention it when you book.
